Spring has sprung and "kitten season" is here. What the heck
is "kitten season," you ask? In most states where winter
temperatures actually dip below freezing, cats breed seasonally.
Such is the case in Colorado. In April we begin getting calls about
momcats with litters of kittens in window wells, orphaned kittens
found in crawl spaces, or from folks whose cat had kittens and the
momcat has disappeared.
This story is about a little white and orange kitten found in
the parking lot at an apartment complex. This little cutie was
brought to Cat Care Society where we estimated his age to be about
10 days old since his eyes were just beginning to open. One of our
veterinary technicians bottle fed the baby boy until we were able
to place him with a nursing momcat in one of our volunteer foster
homes.
Now, if you are thinking you'd like to adopt this little
waif, he won't be available for adoption until he weighs two
pounds. Sorry, it's state law, and a good one for the kittens. But,
by the end of May or first of June for sure, we'll havelots of
kittens needing homes.
We also are in need of more volunteer foster homes. What this
means is that you take care of a momcat and her kittens until the
kittens can be adopted. It's a lot of fun watching the kittens grow
and seeing how each one has a different personality from the
get-go. Call us at 303-239-9680 if you'd like to open your heart
and home to some furry, purry creatures!
