Learn how to take care of your horse

If you are a horse owner who wants to educate yourself on all facets of ownership and you're interested in affordable classes, the Jefferson County Horse Council has a series of classes for you.

The horse council has teamed up with the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension to offer a series of affordable classes for adults and youth called the Horse Sense Seminar Series.

The series of classes will be held on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting April 6 and continuing through May 25. Classes are held at the CSU Extension Center Meeting Room on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. 6th Ave. inGolden. The cost for the classes is $10 for Jefferson County Horse Council members, 4-H parents and leaders; $15 for nonmembers and youth under 18 are free. Pay at the door with cash or check.

April 20: Saddle up! Answers for all your tack questions.

May 4: Horse Shows 101. Horse shows and judging.

May 11: Hittin' the trail. Trail riding.

May 18: Off the beaten path. Packing and backcountry travel.

May 25: Truck and trailer rodeo. How to drive and back your trailer. (Bring your rig and try our obstacle course!)
