On Friday, Jan. 26, the Colorado Chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art kicked off our opening reception and silent auction for The Kitchen Goddess exhibition at the Lakewood Cultural Center,
470 S. Allison Pkwy
. Attended by real-life 'kitchen goddesses' and professional blues musician
John Woodhead
, juried artwork from over 60 artists all over the country was voted on, and our life-sized textile kitchen came to life!
A 'Best of Show' award of $300 was given to Florida artist
Sally Mankus
, creator of 'Pyramid/Untitled', in which photographic images of women's faces appear on vintage metal pot lids. A local artist from Lafayette,
Mimi Bergen
, won $225 in the 'People's Choice' award for her work, including 'Bubbie's Strudel'.
Our life-sized kitchen installation features a retro peek into a 1950s styled kitchen, complete with a pink retro fridge, green furry plates, platters of spotted spam and butter, a large pink plucked turkey on a bed of green 'lettuce', a huge hairy dagwood sandwich, stacks of silky, furry and fuzzy groceries, and a lot more! All of the items in our tactile kitchen are available to take home through the silent auction. In the North Gallery, there is a green furry silent auction book that lists all the objects, their starting bid price and room for any bidder to leave their name and contact information. Bids can also be placed for an item by contacting the curator,
Suchil Coffman
at suchil@qwest.net.
The Kitchen Goddess juried show and kitchen installation will be cooking up a storm through Friday, March 23, 2007. Stop in to see the fabulous pieces by talented artists from all over the US, and on your way out, sign up to make a towering satin Lemon Chiffon Cake your own!
