Lakewood photographer
Steve Vieregg
is marking May 31's appearance of a "blue moon" over Colorado by launching his new landscape and wildlife photography web site.
"Most people have heard the song 'Blue Moon' and are familiar with the
expression 'once in a blue moon,' but how many people really know what a blue moon is?" Vieregg asked. "Now they can find out by logging onto
www.stevevieregg.com
."
Vieregg said he intends to use "fun facts" such as this to add interest to
his Web site and help educate young and old alike about the wonders of nature.
A journalism major in college, Vieregg enjoyed a 30-year career in
government, politics and public relations before becoming a full-time nature
photographer last year. Already he has won several awards. His photos include scenic landscapes, brilliant displays of fall colors, sunrise reflections in mountain
lakes, wildflowers and wildlife, particularly moose.
"Naturally, having a web site has been near the top of my to-do list,"
Vieregg said. "But as time passed, even some of my closest friends and colleagues began wondering whether it would be 'once in a blue moon' before they'd be able to view my photography online."
This, he said, sparked the idea of tying May 31 to the launch of his new web
site. "I certainly did not want to wait until the next blue moon on Dec. 31, 2009," he joked.
Besides fun facts from nature, his web site initially includes:
* 35 of his landscape and wildlife photos.
* A schedule of his upcoming shows and displays.
* A suggestion that his prize-winning closeup photo of a bull moose in
Rocky Mountain National Park would make an excellent Father's Day gift
