Kris Mahan
was the top winner at Foothills Music Teacher's Association (FMTA) Sonatina Festival held at C.C.U. Music Center in Lakewood. He was presented with a trophy and $200 at the winner's recital on March 11. He began studying piano with his mother, Mrs.
Bobette Mahan,
at the age of 5 and has continued his musical studies with her for 12 years.
Kris is a junior at Lakewood HIgh School in the International Baccalaureate program and maintains a 3.75 GPA. He enjoys sports and has played baseball and some basketball.
Kris enjoys singing in the Encore choir at Lakewood High School and loves to travel and learn other languages. He has studied French and is currently learning Russian and German.
Kris also enjoys listening to opera and writing music compositions. His compositions have won twice at the national level and seven times at the state, county or school levels for the PTA Reflections program.
He hopes to find a profession where he can travel to different places in the world and experience new cultures and ways of life.
