For a teenager living at home under Dad's rules, every day may feel like
"
Father's
"
Day. This year some lucky kids got to turn the tables and use Father's Day as a fun chance for a little sweet revenge on dear old dad!
West Metro Fire District's Family Support Network sponsored a "Dunk Dad or a Firefighter
" event at Sunday's Belmar Farmers' Market. Participants were able to dunk dad or one of the firefighters for the price of a small donation to the
Family Support Network
.
One of the families taking advantage of the opportunity to beat the heat was the
Wiechman
family of Lakewood. The family patriarch was
David Wiechman
who also happens to be Vice-President of the
West Metro Fire District's Board of Directors.
Seeking to put him into the dunk tank was his oldest daughter,
Michele
, who recently graduated from
Green Mountain High School
and will be attending
The University of Colorado at Boulder
this fall.
Wiechman was feeling pretty lucky after his daughter Michele missed several throws of the baseball. But the clever young lady was determined to get in the last laugh and when dad wasn't looking she ran up and hit the target with her hand putting him into the cold water.
All the funds raised from the event went to the
West Metro Fire Family Support Network.
The FSN helps families of firefighters during times of crisis and emergencies such as military deployments, illness, death, etc. A current example of the FSN's work is the case of
Firefighter Chad Stodden
who was recently wounded while deployed to Iraq.
Belmar donated the booth space in their weekly Sunday Farmers Market and several firefighters donated their services as dunkees.
The Belmar Farmers Market
runs every Sunday through the summer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the block of W. Alaska Place east of Teller (in front of the Elephant Bar).
