The Denver chapter of Engineers Without Border held their inaugural sand sculpture competition during Lakewood on Parade on Aug. 25. Participants rolled up their sleeves, kicked of their shoes and got down 'n' dirty with piles of sand. The teams had from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to build their sculptures and judging began at 1 p.m.
Onlookers voted for their favorite sculpture, with each vote costing $1. Proceeds went to support the chapter's ongoing sustainable projects in Africa and South America. According to
Kurt Snitker, one of the committee members for the sand sculpture competition, the event raised about $5,500.
