Prowling to Help LHS
Contributed by: tim dennis on 3/16/2007

The LHS Foundation is busy working on the 2007 Tiger Prowl 5K Run and Walk to benefit athletic and activity groups at Lakewood High School. The Foundation was established in 2004 as a fundraising arm of Lakewood High School. Since that time, the LHS Foundation has raised over $50,000.00 for new textbooks and classroom equipment through our annual silent auction and dinner. Because county funding cannot cover all the costs associated with the numerous athletic and activity organizations at LHS, the Foundation created the Tiger Prowl. Last year, the Prowl raised over $12,000.00 for 25 different groups. We learned how important business and corporate sponsors are to an event like this, to help with the costs associated with a race. While we had a great group of sponsors last year, we realize that the more sponsor money we receive, the more money the kids at LHS can receive.

Last year, over 600 participants ran and walked the neighborhood surrounding LHS. Even more impressive to us as a Foundation was the 100 volunteers that gave of their time to make our first year a success. Our goal this year is 1000 participants, and $20,000.00 in money raised for out students. We're excited to be partnered with Lakewood On Parade this year, making the Tiger Prowl a community event for everyone in the city of Lakewood.

This years Prowl will take place on August 26, 2007. We're excited to grow our event, and continue the mission of the LHS Foundation to help out the young adults of Lakewood.
