The tale of a true Rockies fan
Contributed by: Nate King on 6/2/2008

My name is Nathan King, I am 15 years old,and I love baseball-especially Rockies baseball. I have been a Rockies fan my entire life, considering that I went to my first Rockies game at Mile High Stadium when I was only a few months old. I am not a bandwagon fan!

My dad drew me into Rockies fanhood, taking me to games at Mile High Stadium and even taking me downtown to Coors Field when it was under construction in freezing weather to capture a moment of history. My dad taught me how to keep score at a very young age and I have "kept the book" at every Rockies game I have ever attended. Before I was in kindergarten, I learned how to read by following the box scores in the Denver Post.

I follow the team religiously (even if that means doing homework while I watch the game, while making sure my mom doesn't catch me!!) at home and on the road. I have played baseball since I was very young age (I now play high school baseball for Lutheran High School-Parker) and every day after practice I get in the car and switch on my radio to listen to the wonderful voices of Jeff Kingery and Jack Corrigan at the ballpark.

During the Rockies magical run to the postseason and beyond last season, you could not find a happier Rockies fan than me. However, I was very disappointed that I was not able to attend any of the Rockies playoff games. I stayed in tune with the postseason by writing wrap ups for my school newspaper and watching the games every night.

I have had the opportunity to experience many wonderful events through the game of baseball. I was a "kid announcer" at the Colorado Springs Sky Sox game and was able to announce the name of my favorite player at the time, catcher Ben Petrick. I have rounded the warning track at Coors with my Little League team and touched the dirt on the warning track. I sent a letter to Rockies broadcaster Jeff Kingery, who has been one of my role models, expressing my interest in broadcasting pro baseball games and he graciously allowed me to visit his booth during a game last season. Baseball is a magical game and it has been the love of my life for 15 years.

Even though this season has not started off with a bang, and many Rockies fans many have already lost hope, you won't find me losing interest in the team.It would be an honor to watch my favorite team from a suite in Coors Field. What could be better that that?! Don't forget- I love Rockies baseball!!
