Lessons in health

Exercise grows brain cells, that's Bear Creek K-8 physical education teacher Missie Graebing's mantra. Graebing organized the school's 4th annual health week that culminates on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.with a community health fair complete with vendors, a walk-a-thon and prize giveaways. This week, students and teachers created a health theme for every school day. Like the school "going bananas" by wearing yellow and eating bananas to emphasize the importance of eating fruit. Graebing hopes the week's lessons become lifelong habits. "All the studies out there prove that healthier kids are better learners and they're more focused and that's what we're after," she said.
