Evangelicals for Mitt
Contributed by: Gail Kirkegaard on 2/4/2008

DEAR CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN REPUBLICANS,
(if you feel you not are one of these, please refrain from rude comments)

We are basically down to McCain or Romney now. I'm asking you please - don't waste your vote on Paul or Huckabee or another GOP candidate. I have looked at both the leaders very closely, and while I deeply respect Mr. McCain for his military service and POW history, I cannot give him my vote for the leader of our country.

I invite you to examine the records of the leading GOP candidates. I believe that McCain might appoint more conservative judges than either of the Democrats, but that might be all he has going for him. On the other hand, Romney would do that, and so much more regarding preservation of conservative American values, the economy, illegal immigration, border security, and more.

This evening I had an opportunity to listen in on a telephone "town hall" meeting for Governor Romney. I cannot remember who all the big names were in the discussion, but I remember that Jay Sekulow of the ACLJ was one of them who is arguing the case for Mitt Romney for President. You might know Jay, he is the attorney who fights for Christian rights, the ten commandments, prayer in school, etc. He has a radio program on KRKS. You can look up Jay at www.aclj.org

Others who have endorsed Mitt Romney over the last several weeks or days include Laura Ingraham, Sen. Rick Santorum, Sean Hannity, Bob Jones III, Michael Reagan, Chuck Colson, etc. Please see this Web site for more: http://www.evangelicalsformitt.org/

On the issues -

ABORTION: Mitt Romney is not pro choice. He is FOR the sanctity of human life. He's a convert to pro life, much as Ronald Reagan was. Despite his 2002 tolerance for abortion, he is now proudly pro-life, (his views developed/changed in 2005). Mr. Romney opposes Roe v. Wade. He said, "I took action as Governor to preserve the sanctity of life."

EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH: Even though his wife has multiple sclerosis, he vetoed a bill for embryonic stem cell cloning and research, saying that he could not view human embryos as "research material or a commodity to be exploited."

MARRIAGE: He is FOR traditional marriage, and says it is a "sacred institution between a man and a woman." He pushed for an amendment to Massachusetts' constitution to overturn the same-sex "marriages" that courts have imposed.

ENERGY and OIL: Romney opposes the McCain-Lieberman bill due to $0.50/gal. gas tax. He says we, "need worldwide global warming solutions; not CAFE or US tax." He believes we should "develop energy technology like nuclear or liquefied coal." He also said we should "invest in new technologies to get us off of foreign oil."

ILLEGAL ALIENS: He says we need to welcome the people who have been standing in line first. He opposes driver's licenses for illegal aliens, and is adamantly against amnesty. Governor Romney vetoed a bill that would have given illegal aliens in-state tuition at public universities.

REGARDING HIS FAITH: He might not follow the historic doctrinal creeds of the ecumenical world-wide Christian church, but he is the best qualified conservative to lead our country. Christians do not agree with Governor Romney's theology, but he is not running for Pastor. He is running for Commander-in-Chief. Please keep that in perspective.

Additionally, Governor Romney:

- balanced his state's (Massachusetts) budget without raising taxes, despite a $3 billion deficit when he entered the office.

- says that health care should be one's "personal responsibility instead of employer mandates."

- Salvaged the Olympic games in Salt Lake City from financial and scandal disaster, and worked for the Olympics with no salary and no expense account.

- Wants to avoid recession with immediate middle-income tax cuts. He never opposed 2003 Bush cuts, but also never supported it.

- Never, ever supported specific timetable for exit from Iraq: timetable for troop reduction ok; but not for withdrawal.

Please give Governor Romney your support when you attend your local caucus. He's America's best conservative in the race.

I would like to thank you all for allowing me to present my views respectfully, and thank you in advance for respectful discussion. I might not have time to return to this story often to respond to your remarks, but you may click the "send message" link above right, near my profile.

Good day, and God bless.
Gail

February 8 -

James Dobson annouced today that he's endorsing Huckabee, after much contemplation on both Romney and Huckabee. He could not decide between the two, but now that Romney's out of the race, he's behind Governor Huckabee. Too late. What if he'd said something before Super Tuesday about his favorable opinions about both of them as far as family values? What would the results have been for Mitt?

Here's a word of encouragement from Jay Sekulow after Romney's announcement that he's quitting the race:

"As I told Mitt and Ann today, we have no regret. All of us did the right thing by endorsing Mitt and you and David got involved at the outset. All of us owe you and the EFM team a huge thank you. My wife Pam reflected that this was one of the most important journeys we have been on. For the last two months we have been with the Romney's in the various primary states. We would not trade the experience for anything. I do think that as a movement we need to do some soul searching. Maybe even a get together with the EFM team and some others to figure out the way out of the forest.

We all picked the right guy. In that I have no doubt. God had other plans. We need to seek his will in this matter. There is much at stake. Just about every conservative, as well as Christian lawyers came aboard the Romney team. That was no accident."

GREAT JOB
Jay Sekulow

Please notice that after Romney's "conversion" in 2004, he then Signed the '05 bill promoting chemical abortions with Plan B, asked the federal government in Oct.'05 for a major increase in funding for abortion "counseling" and abortifacients, and personally argued in Dec.'05 that pro-life hospitals must dispense abortifacients. In April '06 he signed the Massachusetts health insurance plan to pay for even elective abortions. ROMNEY IS A PRO-ABORT LIAR, by his own words.

*** In April 06 signed the Massachusetts health insurance plan to pay for even elective abortions. [Mass.gov; CNS News] *** Today falsely claims a 1981 court ruling [Boston Globe; MittRomney.com] about "medically necessary" abortions "forced" him to provide tax-funded elective abortion into law, showing he prioritizes socialized "health care" over protecting kids, even when it kills them. *** Signed the '05 bill promoting chemical abortions with Plan B. *** Gave a permanent seat on the Mass. health payment policy advisory board to Planned Parenthood. *** Claims he’s been pro-life for many years but also claims a recent pro-life conversion on Nov. 9 ’04 while talking to Harvard researcher Dou Melton about embryonic stem cells [Wash. Post; ABC News]. But he still supports killing the baby of a rapist, and still openly supports killing the tiniest humans for research. Dr. Melton even disputes Romney's account of their conversation [Boston Globe; Wash. Post].

*** Pro-life Romney even attended a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood [ABC News]. *** In October 2005 Romney asked the federal government for a waiver for a major increase in funding for abortion "counseling" and abortifacients [Boston Globe]. *** Romney appointed openly pro-abort Democrat Matt Nestor to a district court [ABC News ]. *** Disputing a ruling on the side of life by his own state health department [Boston Globe], he personally argued in Dec.'05 that pro-life hospitals must dispense abortifacients [Boston Globe]. *** During the years that Romney says he was personally pro-life he aggressively claimed to be second-to-none in asserting abortion as an essential right [Weekly Standard]. *** The Weekly Standard reports him telling the pro-abortion activists at NARAL, "you need someone like me in Washington."

While Chuck Colson has said some complimentary things about Mitt Romney, please note that he NEVER endorses a political candidate. A post on the evangelicalsformitt web site even correctly quotes Colson as saying, “While I never endorse candidates, believing it is wrong for religious leaders to do so, . . .

Not since 2005. Reagan also was once pro-choice and changed to pro-life. God is so good. We can come around and be forgiven... except some people never forget.

The only thing correct in your comment Rick is that he is not Christian.

Mitt Romney is a pro-abort, he signed a bill in Massachusetts that provides for a Fifty Dollar copay for elective abortions. He is not pro life, he is not conservative, and he is not a Christian.
