A government establishes laws based off of what it thinks is right and wrong. This is true of any government. When you break a law you have done wrong and are punished. So, the very purpose of laws and government is to establish right and wrong.

Hrumph. Our politicians should have little to do with establishing the moral values of the country. That is the responsibility of parents and the community as a whole. If abortion was illegal, but we had twice as many as today, would that do us any good? If all we had was abstinence education, but twice as many teenage girls got pregnant, would that do us any good? Values are a personal matter. I do not want my president telling me what is morally correct. That is why I have parents. That is what the clergy are for.

Let me add that so far, I think I like Duncan Hunter. My nephew mailed me a handful of Fred Thompson bumper stickers, one for every driver of my family (they're all grown-ups now!) We haven't put them on the cars - yet.

Thanks for the information Samantha. I'm a Christian voter upset with the moral decline of our country as well. I am not, however, convinced that any particular faith should try to claim, or reclaim America. The one issue for which I will always vote my values is abortion. The republicans who are currently leading candidates do not impress me as being pro-life, so I'm still undecided about a favorite. We need someone who can oppose Clinton, with a chance for the office. While I believe homosexuality to be sinful, I believe it's not government's place to dictate right or wrong.
