The difference between In-laws and Out-laws
Contributed by: Kristopher Sage on 11/22/2005

Editor's note: We asked readers to tell us why they deserve to win a suite for 16 people at a Colorado Avalanche game. Here is what one reader wrote:

I'm writing this more for my amazing wife than for me (but when you see how sweet I am after reading this you'll think I did it for me).  My wife, Shannon, is in her last year of college at Metro State University where she is getting her degree to be an art teacher.  She is a PHENOMENAL artist and an even better teacher.  This past semester has been the one from hell.  She has worked so incredibly hard, lost an asinine amount of sleep and shed a ton of tears.  So that said, the reason I should assume ownership of this suite for a game is that hockey is her favorite sport.  It's a stress reliever for her and in the past whenever we've gone to a game she is so happy when the players hit the ice that I don't want that part of the evening to end.  She deserves this if anything as a reward for the hard work she's done and also because her birthday is January third, incidentally. Here's a  little Cliff Clavinism: January third is also Mel Gibson's birthday.  Isn't that an award-worthy piece of knowledge?  And to punchline the old joke, the difference between in-laws and outlaws is that outlaws are wanted, I would be willing to just bring my in-laws to the game and none of my millions of friends (don't laugh so hard, just let me have my moment) so that Shannon can spend the evening with the people who have supported us so much the past few years financially when I had two surgeries and missed work for a while, and verbally by giving us a shoulder to cry on and a place to vent our frustrations when things were rough. So hopefully you've already decided that there's no reason to read any more and to award the suite to this person Kris and his wife Shannon. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
