The Colorado Rollin' Rockies--the state's only wheelchair softball program--played host to the Colorado Judicial Branch 18th Judicial District on July 24, 2008 for a game of wheelchair softball at Jason Jennings Adaptive Field in Lakewood. The event provided an opportunity for at-risk children from Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties to learn the ins and outs of the adaptive form of America's Greatest Pastime known as wheelchair softball.
Special thanks goes out the entire Rollin' Rockies team for providing one on one instruction and giving the adolescents a fresh perspective on how to overcome obstacles, ultimately empowering these kids to bring this knowledge into every day life. "I can't imagine being in a [wheel] chair for longer than just this game," said one youngster. "I thought I had it bad." He added.
In honor of the occasion, Johnny's New York Pizza provided several pies free-of-charge to the participants at the event. Johnny's is historically the Rollin' Rockies biggest and most loyal sponsor and will take to wheelchairs on August 3, 2008 for a game of their own at 10 a.m., also at Jason Jennings Adaptive Field. This will be the Rollin' Rockies final game prior to traveling to Council Bluffs, IA on August 6th for the National Wheelchair Softball Tournament which will feature the top dozen teams from around the country.
