"Lockett the Rocket" should be his nickname because Lukas Lockett blasted through, around and past the defensive line of Columbine. Giving the Bear Creek "Bears" their first victory over the "Rebels" in five years! Lockett's stats for the game; he rushed 26 times for 221 yards got all five touchdowns and improved his team's record to 3-4 overall, 2-3 in league. Couple this with Zack Thenell contributing 79 yards rushing giving the "Bears" a 300 yard rushing game. Zack also is the leading passer in the league, which is impressive in it's own right. Lukas this whole year has been a sheer delight to watch run, not only being powerful but also showing agility and vision in his moves. One can only hope to see him in the future still exciting the crowds.
At one point in the game there was six possessions in under 3:00, Columbine fumbled three times in five plays. There for a while there were flags galore and the ball exchanging teams every several seconds.
Danny Spond of the "Rebels" is "Mr. Do-it-all" not only does he quarterback, he is their linebacker and punter. No matter what team you would be rooting for, you would have to admit he is an impressive athlete, he can run the ball, throw the ball and by the looks of it, hit like a freight train. Doing this all season behind a lack luster offensive line has been taking a toll on him, both in the Chatfield game and in this Game against the "Bears". The officials stopped the game for a thumb that was bleeding badly at the Chatfield game and during the fourth quarter of this game he was hauled off by ambulance with a presumed concussion.
Whatta game! Is all that can be said!
