Lakewood's Lopez signs on at Adams State
Contributed by: Chris Day on 2/9/2006

Ten more high school seniors, nine of whom hail from Colorado, have signed National Letters of Intent to play football and attend Adams State College starting in the fall of 2006. Grizzly Head Coach Wayne McGinn made the announcement about the group on Thursday.

The players have signed with the Grizzlies in the days since last week's National Signing Day and pushes the number of Grizzly recruits in the 2006 class to 33. This group of ten includes six players from Metropolitan Denver high schools and two that played prep ball for former ASC players. It also includes seven players listed with defensive positions and three with offensive spots.

However, many of the players played on both sides of the ball in high school and could switch sides once preseason camp starts in August. One of the players with the ASC connection is Sthyl Driscoll, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound outside linebacker from Cherry Creek High School. Driscoll was a second team all-conference pick for the Greg Critchett coached Bruin and was named as the team's defensive MVP. He also saw action at the fullback and strong safety spots for the Bruins. The other ASC connected signee is Ray Thomas, a 5-foot-9, 185-pound outside linebacker who played for Greg Holley at Woodland Park High School. Thomas was a 2-time all-conference pick at Woodland Park and also served as a running back. Holley's son George was an All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection for the Grizzlies, who led the conference in sacks during 2005, his junior season. Other interesting notes about Thursday's announcement are that Matthew Kuykendoll of Northglenn High School and Carlos Lopez of Alameda High School are joining high school teammates in the recruiting class. Northglenn products Nate Baldwin and Kyle Hitt had signed with the Grizzlies last week. Alameda seniors Oscar Murray and Phillip Owens had done the same. Goodyear, Ariz. native and Millenium High School senior Chris Rimer is the only out of state player in this group of signees. Taryll Galloway, who will transfer to ASC from Glendale Community College, is also from Goodyear and Millenium. Galloway was the lone junior college transfer in last week's group of recruits. In 2005, the Grizzlies went 6-5 overall and finished a perfect 5-0 at home. They had a league-high 16 players named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team and placed five on various all-region teams. In 2004, the Grizzlies went 7-4 and played for a share of the RMAC title after going on a 7-game winning streak. That squad had 12 All-RMAC selections.
