DENVER - The Colfax Marathon Partnership announced today that runners impacted by a course length discrepancy have received revised, corrected times. The new results are available here.
Prior to the race, the course was USA Track and Field certified as to proper length. Unfortunately, the course was not set out as measured in City Park, and as a result was a half mile too long between mile markers 12 and 13. Those running the full marathon and the third leg of the relay were affected by the discrepancy.
Marathon organizers accept full responsibility for the error and have been working towards an immediate solution. On Saturday, May, 26 a USA Track and Field certification official completed a review of the incorrectly laid out portion of the course and determined that there was a length differential of .513747 miles or 2,712 ½ ft. between the correctly certified course and the course as it was set out on Sunday, May 20.
This information was passed along to the Marathon'stiming company and newtimes were calculated for effected participants. For those individuals attempting to qualify for the 2008 BAA Boston Marathon, the Marathon has made arrangements for these adjusted times to be accepted for qualification purposes.
The organization has apologized to runners for the inconvenience caused by this error and hasensured that this problem willnot occur in the future. In addition, an electronic survey will be distributed to all participants in the coming weeks in order to gather feedback on how the race can be improved for 2008. Organizers anticipate announcing the results of that survey by early July.
