Under the lights at Schaefer Athletic Field, the 11 year old Green Mountain Rams built on the incredible momentum of a stellar season and won their first USSSA State Championship!!
Over the 4 th of July weekend, Lakewood hosted the State Tournament for the 11 year olds, welcoming 27 teams from across Colorado. Due to some challenging weather situations, the semi-final and final games were pushed back to Monday night. With the field narrowed to four outstanding teams, the Rams first took on the talented Bear Creek Sox. The Rams approached the game with confidence in their baseball fundamentals. The Rams pitching was backed by a quick and focused defense. The bats were also alive and the Rams quickly shut out the Sox, 10-0.
As the lights came on the Rams took the field to face the defending State Champion Northern Colorado White Sox. Showing poise and maturity, each one of the eleven Rams players contributed in the Championship Game. Allowing only one hit, the Rams shut out the White Sox for the Title, again winning 10-0.
In recognition of their win the boys and coaches received State Champion rings. They will all cherish both this keepsake and the memories of an incredible night at the ball park.
