Lakewood Tigers at the Carnation Bowl
Contributed by: Kristi Zaborski on 11/12/2007

What a roller-coaster ride weekend. First the Tigers are up, then the Tigers are down. There were cheers and tears this weekend. No matter what the outcome was for each of the four teams representing Lakewood, this weekend we can say we made it to the Carnation Bowl. That in itself is a tough road, and each Tiger should feel proud for saying they were apart of such a great accomplishment.

Fourth Grade Division II- Coach Ken Zaborski's team played against Wheat Ridge 2. I am proud to say Lakewood brought home the trophy 42-14. Our tigers played with all their heart and soul and it showed all over the field. The first play of the game the ball was caught by Zachery Dean on the 10-yard line and he ran it all the way in for a touchdown - first play of the game! Our parents were rocking the stands and they didn't stop until the end of the game. Braden Smith scored three touchdowns, Andrew Cherry scored one touchdown, and Jonah Torrison scored one touchdown. Cameron Naas intercepted three times and don't forget about our "Jarheads" if it wasn't for our offensive line men these things could not have taken place. What about our stellar Tiger defense shutting down a high scoring offense? Each Tiger has a position and that is what makes our team a team. Our Tigers never let up. We are proud of you!

Eighth Grade Division II - Coach Tom Colangelo played against the Arvada Bulldogs 8-14 .This was a touch game for the Tigers. It was there last game together as a team. A lot of the team have been together since they were seven years old. Every emotion you can think of was running through their team from nerves to beaming smiles to sadness. We all hope they keep football in there hearts for next year, as they are playing for the high school.

Fifth Grade Division I - Coach Brent Hollingsworth played against the Bear Creek Bears 12-22. The Tigers should be proud of themselves. They played a hard-fought game, they kept the score low against Bear Creek, who they played earlier in the season and had a high score against them. They definitely had Bear Creek on their toes. They should keep there heads high.

Seventh Grade Division I - Coach Jeff Christansen played against the North Metro Jaguars. I am proud to say Lakewood brought home the trophy, 30-8. What a blow out! This is the third year for this team to go and win the Carnation Bowl.

This is the first year Lakewood has had ten teams; four of the teams going to the Carnation Bowl and two out of the four winning the Carnation Bowl. I would have to say what a great year Lakewood Midget Football had. Our season started with our first annual football midget camp to four teams going to the Carnation Bowl. We are looking forward to building our Lakewood Football program for the 2008 year. Look for the fliers, banners and hand outs for next football season.

Thank you again to our coaches, players, parents and supporters.
You Rock Tigers!
