Telephone excise tax refund
Taxpayers can file for refunds of all federal excise tax they have paid on long distance telephone service billed to them after February 28, 2003 and before August 1, 2006. A refund is not allowed for the federal local telephone service excise tax, which remains in effect.
Individual taxpayers can take a standard refund amount based on the number of exemptions that they claim on their tax return. ($30 for one exemption, $40 for two exemptions, $50 for three exemptions, and $60 for four exemptions or more).
