On Aug. 24 my alarm went off a little too early for my liking, but I was, for the most part, able to jump out of bed with enough adrenaline going through my body to get me going. You see I was going to be part of the mass ascension media flight as part of the opening for the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival at Chatfield State Park Aug. 24 through 26 and hoped to get some cool pictures for YourHub.com.
I was a little nervous about actually going on a hot air balloon ride -- heights are not exactly my favorite thing in the world. But I was willing to give it a try. Unfortunately, due to wind, clouds and some lightning in the area hot air ballooning was not in the cards for anyone. Only a lone Re/Max balloon took its chances in flight.
That wasOK though -- there was still plenty of other cool stuff happening to open the weekend. The morning was filled with color while balloons stood tall on the ground for all to see. Arvada local and bagpiper
Bennett W. Holmes entertained the morning crowd -- he was quite impressive. I met some really cool people and many hot air balloon enthusiasts. The biggest rubber band ball was also on display (and will be all weekend). The guy I talked with at the display said he had to drive out to Massachusetts to pick it up.
I encourage you to head to Chatfield State Park this weekend. I promise you will not be disappointed. And my guess is that the balloons will make it up both Saturday and Sunday. Something not to be missed -- I'll be looking for them. Find out more about the festival and view the list of events at
