Blog Entry 23 of 32 Into the hills
I started working at YourHub.com in October of 2005. Lucky for me I actually live in the area I cover for YourHub.com, which makes me feel a little more in touch with my community and I hope to tell you what that is like and get some feedback. I’ll also let you know what’s going on with me and share some observations about whatever’s on my mind. I might also throw in a book review here or there, although I doubt it will be anything too earth shattering. My hope is to find some other reviewers out there, for books, restaurants, entertainment, etc... Enjoy!

Halloween now, Christmas later

This past weekend (Oct. 27) I was shopping at the Littleton Babies "R" Us store for a shower gift for my very pregnant friend. As I was sorting through her gift registry list, all of a sudden I was singing Feliz Navidad in my head. "What the heck?" I thought. "How did this all of sudden pop in my head?"

As I stood there, I began to listen, and sure enough the store was actually playing it over their speaker system. I thought maybe the song just accidentally got mixed into their song list, but sure enough another Christmas song came on after that ... and then another one.

And this wasn't the only example of an early Christmas I've seen recently. I also noticed Christmas decorations on lampposts in another Littleton shopping center's parking lot. Then, yesterday evening, I was walking downtown Washington Street in Golden with a friend and the trees along the street already had Christmas lights on them. My friend turned to me in bewilderment and said, "Surely these can't be Christmas decorations up already." Then I told her my Babies "R" Us story.

Call me crazy, but I think it is way to early to be playing Christmas music in the stores. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas - it's my favorite holiday - but at this rate I'm going to be sick of it before December even hits.

I understand why stores have their Christmas items and decorations up for sale - even I like to prepare early -- but having trees already up in stores for pure decoration along with Christmas music playing before Halloween is just ridiculous.

Today is Halloween -- let's celebrate it first, then maybe I'll accept Christmas music in stores November.

What you think? Is it too early? Or do you love to hear Christmas music now? Feel free toleave your comments below.

It is kinda nice to get the decorating and shopping done while the weather is still nice!!

Well, here on YourHub.com, I already saw an event listing for New Year's Eve party for couples! Yeah, talk about early.

I love Christmas music. Starting around the 12th of December or so.

My friend's mother works for a department store for several years now. She hates Christmas music now because she said she has to listen to it for three months straight every year.

Charlie Brown (not the Denver City Councilman) has something to say about all this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=OiDsH3x-UcU

I've actually already started my holiday shopping, so as to avoid the madness completely.

It's all about money. Money, money and more money.

Christmas decorations... I thought I would be hip and cool and get out my Easter decorations just to beat everyone else to it...I guess I'll just have to go back to Christmas. Maybe next year we can start celebrating christmas in July, and the following year even earlier, say in march. Then finally the human race will have acheived human perfection when we can celebrate Christmas 2011 in December of 2010! Hooray, now we can buy Christmas stuff every day of the year!

I was at Hobby Lobby the other day and they definitly had more Christmas stuff than Halloween. My Christmas CDs do not make an appearance until the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest. Hey, Fairlight, now I want an egg-nogg latte!

The upside: It's egg nog time!
