HubCap: What to do on New Year's
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 12/27/2006

After recovering from all the snow shoveling you'll be doing if the projected forecast is correct, you've probably got an idea of what you'll be doing to ring in the new year, even if it's just buying a new calendar, watching Dick Clark from the comfort of your couch and heading to bed early.

If you don't have plans yet, we've got a bunch of events around the metro area for you, from prayer vigils to parties promising mermaids and bikini fashion shows. Hey, who doesn't have mermaids at their new year's party these days?

The Labyrinth at Arvada United Methodist Church will host a " Laby New Year Celebration" for "anyone interested in a meditative, contemplative examination of the past and future year," starting at 11:30 p.m.

The Copper Club in Aurora will host a New Year's Eve Singles Dance for those in their late 30s to early 60s. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the party goes until 12:15 a.m.

The West End Tavern in Boulder is taking it back to 1987, the year it was born, with '80s costumes and drink prices from 1987. No word on whether they'll be breaking out a Coors Light Party Ball.

Curious Gage
will perform at the last Family First Concert of 2006 at Palizzi Farms in Brighton, followed by fireworks.

Broomfield Recreation Services will take you up to the Bull Durham Casino in Black Hawk from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for only $8 ($6 if you're a Broomfield resident). If they're wise, they'll take the payment before they drop you off at the casino.

If you're not into partying your way into the new year, Castle Rock Christian Fellowship and Castle Rock Baptist Church are planning a prayer vigil to take you into 2007.

For $39.50, you can ring in the new year at noon with a "mimosa and matinee" performance of HATS! A New Musical For the Rest of Your Life at 11:30 a.m. at the New Denver Civic Theatre on Santa Fe.

You can help solve a murder mystery at a dinner party at the Adams Mystery Playhouse in Denver as part of Death For Dinner, presented by Marne Interactive Productions.

Singles Marketplace will host an All Singles New Year's Eve Party, including dinner and champagne, at The Bella Building, a private venue, in Denver. No jeans.

Future Jazz Project will play at Jazz @ Jacks Block Party in the Denver Pavilions for only $10, a way of thanking their fans for a great 2006.

Like mead? Check out what I assume is Denver's only midnight mead toast at the Wynkoop Brewing Company and Impulse Theater's " Best New Year's Eve-r" party.

Supreme Court Cafe & NightClub on the 16th Street Mall claims to have the " best singles party in Denver" on New Year's Eve. Festivities begin at 9 p.m.

Boogielicious will perform in the Peaks Lounge, and Jakarta Band will perform in the Strata Bar at the Hyatt Regency Denver on New Year's Eve.

Kids can ring in the new year early (countdown is at 9 p.m.) at the Denver Zoo's Zoo Year's Eve, free with regular Zoo Lights admission.

Denver's own Quarter Pound will headline the Hammer Down New Year's Party at Bushwackers Saloon in Denver. Opening act is No1LeftStanding.

Don Elliot and The Ramblers will perform from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the New Year's Eve Gala at the Holiday Hills Ballroom in Federal Heights.

Boulder's own Lisa Bell will ring in the new year at Rhapsody's at Clear Creek in Golden.

The Lost Canyon Band can take you back to the '60s and '70s with tunes from The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Santana, and the mighty mighty Led Zeppelin at Nissi's in Lafayette.

The Sweat Brothers, Colorado's oldest living garage band, will play their final performance at Dillinger's in Lafayette.

Bombshell Productions will bring their New Year's Eve Bash, including comedians and a talent show, from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the Pinnacle Theater in Littleton.

The Robusto Room in Lone Tree, the cool bar in the south suburbs, will have live music and free cigars from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The Hazel Miller Band will bring blues and soul to the Radisson Graystone Castle in Thornton as part of a deluxe package at the hotel.

The White Rose Gala, at the Westin in Westminster, says it's Denver's "biggest New Year's Eve event," with mermaids, stilt walkers, fire dancers, and oh yeah, a bikini fashion show.

I think any event centered around mead needs to involve Vikings and boar's heads and possibly burning a village to the ground.
