Greg Milano candidate for KCRMD board
Contributed by: Greg Milano on 4/10/2008

Editor's note: Voters will be electing three members to the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District Board of Directors on May 6. For more candidate profiles and information on the election, click here. YourHub.com asked the candidates running to answer a questionnaire to get to know them better. Here's what candidate Greg Milanohad to say:

My name: Greg Milano

My age:39

My Family:Lauri Milano, Jake (5) and Adam ( 4)

Education:BS in Business Administration / Marketing

What I do: Realtor and Mortgage Broker

My favorite place in town to hang out: Hiking on the trails with my kids, typically in Jefferson county.

What I like most about living here: The family and community cohesiveness, the vast amount of open space and mountains, and all the activities and amenities available for the kids.

My interests and hobbies: Coaching my kids sports, mountain biking and skiing

My favorite thing to cook: Anything on the grill...my wife banned me from the kitchen years ago.

People who inspire me (and how): Lance Armstrong is a great example of unstoppable determination and a drive to succeed even when you may be doubted by others or the odds are against you. His perseverance inspires me to always try to raise the bar a little higher in all facets of my life.

How I have contributed to the community: I am currently serving on the committee Invest in Ken Caryl www.investinkcranch.org and I am a second year member of the Ken Caryl Trail Club. I am also a volunteer for the Denver Chapter Cancer Society Fundraisers.

The biggest issues facing KCRMD now: The MD board has been facing an uphill battle with trying to keep our community amenities and family programs running. With rising cost, aging facilities and approximately the same amount of taxes in 2006 as it collected in 2002 it has been impossible to make ends meet. They've had to cut out activities which in the long run end up hurting our kids the most. In this upcoming election the residences of Ken Caryl have to make a decision on what is more important to them; saving a small amount from increased taxes (which are tax deductible) or be faced with a depreciating values in their community because it will no longer have the elite status of a family community that promotes outdoor living and activities for adults and kids. If A & B do not pass the homeowners will be faced with increase HOA dues and a pay-as-you-go system. By moving to a pay-as-you-go method exclusively the system will not be able to support itself and the consequences will be dated and obsolete facilities, causing residents to seek better amenities outside the community. According to the MD, our soccer and baseball programs will have to be eliminated because they will not be able to water the fields. What will be next? There seems to be some inaccurate information about the tax increase and the current MD board that has made its way into the community. By going to www.investinkcranch.org you can research for yourself what the facts are and what issues the community is facing in the very near future and long term.

Why am I am running: We moved to Ken Caryl for the amenities, facilities, location and uniqueness of a community which caters to families and I'm seeing these great atributes being compromised. In my profession, most communities I see fall short of the pride that Ken Caryl has established and I feel it is imperative that we hold on to what was created by the previous homeowners. In the time I have lived here this community has given my family so much; now I want to give back and uphold the standards that Ken Caryl is known for along the Front Range .
