. YourHub.com asked the candidates running to answer a questionnaire to get to know them better. Here's what candidate
Scott A. Milne
had to say:
My name:
Scott A. Milne
My age:
43
My Family:
Dayna Milne
,
Garrett
(7), and
Turner
(5)
Education:
I have and Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from Kansas State University, preceded by a BS in Landscape Horticulture from Colorado State University
What I do:
I am a developer of residential infill homes in the metro area, managing the design, financing, and development of single family and small multi-family projects. I also have a consulting business, providing site planning, design, and landscape architecture services to architects and developers.
My favorite place in town to hang out:
At any number of kid-related sports activities! They are a great place to be with friends and meet new people.
What I like most about living here:
Our communities connection to the outdoors, open space, and numerous family activities.
My interests and hobbies:
I love working with my hands, whether it's a kitchen remodel, painting, or working in the yard.
My favorite thing to cook:
Pancakes on Saturday morning !
People who inspire me (and how):
Anyone that demonstrates a willingness to try, and try hard! I believe that if a person tries, and fails, they were 100 percent successful at trying!
How I have contributed to the community:
I have been active as a member of the Ken-Caryl Covenant Committee for the past 3 years, I was a member/leader of the Community Tree Task Force last year, soccer coach and active in many other kid sports as a supportive parent. Most recently I was active in promoting the 5A tax increase, not as a tax advocate, but as a person who felt the increase was a good investment in the community.
The biggest issues facing KCRMD now:
We face many complex issues, not the least of which is how to maintain current levels of service for our amenities, services, and staffing (and restore services already cut) with diminished operating funds and rising costs. I believe that community services must be provided at the most economical cost, and that the job of the MD Staff and Board of Directors is to manage and direct those activities. Other communities have modeled themselves after Ken-Caryl, and people are starting to look elsewhere to live when they see un-watered playing fields and aging facilities. The MD's development of a finance committee, as well as preparation of short term and long term financial plans, is a step in the right direction.
Why I am running:
Our family has lived in Ken-Caryl almost seven years. I have been a member of the Covenant Committee for the past 3 years, which has been a great experience. I want to become a more involved participant in the community at the Board level. Our kids are now at an age (5 and 7) where their activities continue to introduce us to so many great people and facilities within our community, all great reasons to participate and support the longevity of the community. Last fall, prior to the 5A election, I became aware of the many challenges that face the MD, the most obvious being a reduction in staffing and maintenance of our community facilities and open space due to ongoing budget challenges. I was frustrated with the apparent lack of easily accessible, understandable, factual information. It is my goal as member of the board to present clear, concise information, combined with supporting information and detail easily available to all of our residents. As our facilities and open space continue to age, thoughtful and efficient use of funds must be a high priority. I am confident that my management experience and sense of fiscal responsibility will be a benefit to the community. To those of you who know me, you know that I want to help improve this community through thoughtful consideration of issues. For those who do not know me personally, know that I will do my best to listen to you in an effort to make informed decisions as a member of the Board.
