Sound Off: KCRMD uses inaccurate data to get votes

on 3/18/2008
On February 13, 2008, Mr.
Jim Everson
, the Jefferson County Assessor, spoke to the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (KCRMD) about assessments and mill levy rates.
In the March 5, 2008 issue of
Life at Ken Caryl
resident
Allison Jensen
authored a summary article of Mr. Everson's presentation. I attended this meeting and I found that this article provided the Ken Caryl residents with inaccurate information.
Her article states that Mr. Everson said "His number one response was to De-Bruce from TABOR and also vote to exempt the KCRMD from the 5.5 percent revenue limitation." Not only was this NOT his number one response, it was not his intention at all.
To validate that the information in the March 5, 2008 article was inaccurate we corresponded with Mr. Jim Everson and his response is as follows and I quote verbatim;
"I am a big fan of TABOR. I have actually participated in public debates advocating that we keep TABOR in effect as it is and not water it down with Constitutional Amendments that would weaken it. Disclosing the fact that a taxing authority can, under the terms of TABOR amendment, have an election to eliminate some of the restrictions of TABOR is not the same as advocating that district should pursue such a course. I was there merely to provide facts, not to advocate a position. The fact is the district can have such an election. I do not live in the district and have no right to advocate any position with respect to district policy concerning whether or not to hold such an election and I do not believe that I did so at the meeting. If my comments were taken otherwise by anyone at the meeting, I am sincerely sorry, because that certainly was not my intent. On a personal note, I consistently cast my own vote against proposals to eliminate TABOR protections.-Jim"
I am also sorry that the KCRMD and the KCRMA would use inaccurate data for political posturing to secure votes.
If the Committee to Invest in Ken Caryl Ranch mission statement is "Our mission is to disseminate the real facts about the issue." Now you have them.
This is just another really good reason to vote NO on A and B in the upcoming May election. For further information visit our website:

James F. Wilson
