Editor's note: Visit our
Faces of South Metro page
, where YourHub.com staff and readers can introduce you to more people who make this part of the metro area what it is.
Randy Pye
has been the Mayor of the City of Centennial since its incorporation in 2001. The Mayor worked for 2 ½ years with a group of four people to get the incorporation of the City started. Out of 100 meetings, Pye was at 93 of them. His commitment to the City has not faltered. He has kept with the vision of Centennial that was promised from the beginning because it is the "right thing" to do.
In addition to being Mayor, Pye works as the Director of Investor Relations at the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation. He considers himself more of a policy person and enjoys both roles as Mayor and Director of Investor Relations.
"My position at the Metro Denver EDC allows me to be a regional mayor working with regional businesses. These two jobs are a natural fit for me, says Pye. I feel I am connecting the private sector with government and vice versa. The great thing about being Mayor is I can meet and listen to citizens, governments, mayors, businesses, etc and make a difference for them tomorrow."
Mayor Pye starts his day at about 4:45 a.m. and will try to attend a City meeting before heading downtown to the Metro Denver EDC. His day is typically done about 9 p.m. As the Mayor says, "Sometimes there are not enough hours in a day but I love what I do."
In addition Mayor Pye is the Chair of the Metro Mayors Caucus for the third time. Being elected to this position three times is unprecedented. He also sits on several other committees/boards that serve the region and the state.
One of Pye's best memories as Mayor was during one of his "Pye and Coffee" meetings where he meets with citizens one-on-one. An eight-year-old girl came into the meeting room with a rose. Pye asked the girl "What is the rose for?" The girl responded by saying, "I just wanted to say thank you for being my mayor." Pye felt so appreciative of this little girl's generosity and will always remember her.
Pye enjoys spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife
Susan
for 29 years and has a married daughter and two grandchildren. Pye enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking and is an amateur outdoor photographer. He tends to read three books at one time. He enjoys non-fiction, biographies, and history books and balances these by reading a fiction book as well. He and his wife enjoyed ballroom dancing until recently due to an injury to his leg.
Mayor Pye is term limited and not planning to run for another elected office. His term expires in 2010.
"This has been a tremendous experience for me and my family. I am so proud to be a part of such a dynamic, ever-changing City that has so much to offer residents and businesses, says Pye. It is a very exciting time to be a part of the City of Centennial."
