Moscow Classical Ballet's beloved holiday treasure

"The troupe boasts a cluster of phenomenal young dancers...
and its corps performs in an uncluttered, streamlined style."
~The New York Times
"Come early... There won't be empty seats in the back for late-comers to slip into."
~ Daytona Beach News Journal
A nostalgic ballet representing the magic of the holiday season, the Nutcracker is based on the early 19 th century German story " The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by E.T.A. Hoffman. Set to Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky's score, the Moscow Classical Ballet's Nutcracker is as close asone can get to the production that premiered over 110 years ago at the Maryinsky Theatre in St.Petersburg. Nutcracker tells the charming story of Masha who receives a Nutcracker gift from her godfather, Drosselmeyer. Her brother, Fritz teases Masha and breaks the Nutcracker doll. While sleeping Masha dreams of the Nutcracker engaged in a mighty battle with a Mouse Prince with several heads.
After defeating the Mouse Prince, the Nutcracker encounters the Queen of Mice. Masha and the Nutcracker then travel to a magical kingdom of candy. Awaking from her dream, Masha meets Drosselmeyer's nephew who looks like the prince in her dreams.
Featuring choreography by V. Vainonen, N. Kasatkina, and V. Vasilyov, with music by renowned Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, " The Great Russian Nutcracker" has become a trademark for the famous Moscow Classical Ballet. The production is filled with charming characters, valuable lessons, and stunning costumes while showcasing the talents of the company's dancers, all of whom have been trained extensively in the art of classical ballet.
The Nutcracker has a long and flavorful history. It was first performed by the Kirov Ballet at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 17, 1892. Tchaikovsky wrote the original score to the piece as an adaptation to Hoffman's tale; however, the famous composer was not excited about the project originally and the ballet was a failure with both critics and audiences when it first debuted. In1954, revered American choreographer George Ballenge brought new life to the ballet when he mounted a production of the Nutcracker for the New York City Ballet. It was this production that helped pave the way for the Nutcracker's continued holiday popularity, whisking audiences away into a whimsical land of make-believe.
Tickets for the Nutcracker range in price from __$50.00_ to _$80.00_(plus applicable taxes) and are available at www.ticketsplus.com
