Rubber will hit the road as runners and walkers alike gear up for the 3rd annual ERACE Homelessness 10K/5K Run and 2K Funwalk on Saturday, August 23rd at City Park in Denver. All proceeds benefit Senior Support Services, a non-profit agency serving low-income and homeless seniors. All interested runners and walkers are welcome and encouraged to register and participate! "We are looking forward to this year's race and expect a record turnout!" says executive director Ted Pascoe.
For over 30 years, Senior Support Services has helped seniors in need by providing a safe place to go during the day, meals, and case management. Available outreach services include assistance in finding or retaining housing, obtaining health care, benefits obtainment, utility assistance, and more. An emergency food and clothing bank are available on site. Senior Support is geared solely toward meeting the needs of this often-overlooked population. Many find camaraderie in the company of peers, while getting the help they need to live independently and with dignity. Senior Support serves up to 200 seniors daily. This event is the primary fundraiser of the organization.
You can help erase the distance between homelessness and security for Denver's homeless and hungry seniors by participating in ERACE. Some of the seniors benefiting will be on hand, cheering you on during the course of the race! The event gets underway at 8 a.m. on August 23rd for check-in and registration, 9 a.m for the actual race. The winner's circle will commence at 10 a.m. Great prizes await the top men and women racers, and top racers by gender and age group. Prizes will also be awarded to those collecting the most pledges.
