Mental Health Care Issues: ECT for One

Shelley Moriston, Psy.D., M.S., B.S.N., R.N., C., C.D.D.N. will speak to our community. Join us for our FREE education night meeting. We provide snacks as well as a comfortable, welcoming and safe environment. Dr. Moriston is currently Director of Nursing/Nurse Administrator II at Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan in Denver. He is responsible for eight in-patient psychiatric units for children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. He has worked extensively in the field of Dual Diagnosis (developmental disabilities and mental illness). Dr. Moriston is currently on Governor Ritter's task force conviened to improve treatment in the area of developmental disabilities and mental illnesses. Dr. Moriston has overseen the ECT DEPARTMENT and can provide insight regarding this often misunderstood treatment for severe mental illnesses.

In his employment at Ft. Logan, Dr. Moriston has managed a staff of over 200 nurses and mental health clinicians, overseen Central Medical Supply, the medical clinic, AND the ECT department. Prior to this he was Corporate Director of Nursing/Executive State Director providing, among other responsibilities, clinical support and oversight as Corporate Director of Nursing to all operations in 33 states including ICF/MR facilities, group homes, DD Waiver programs, nursing homes and home health agencies.

Dr. Moriston is a published author on such topics as "...forgotten citizens disparity in health care...".
