Candidate Q&A: Cheri Gerou

Cheri Gerou is running for House District 25 and answered a questionnaire for YourHub.com. To read all of the candidate questionnaires, click here.

My Name: Cheri Gerou

My Age: 52

My Family: Husband, Phil is also an architect. Our son Greg, 27 graduated from the University of Colorado's Engineering School and earned his masters from Colorado School of Mines. He lives and works in Denver. Our daughter Sara, 25 graduated from the University of Colorado and earning her masters from Queen's College. She lives and works in Chicago, IL. I have the best husband and children - they are great and fun people!

Education: B.A. in Fine Arts, University of Colorado at Denver.

What I do: I am an architect. My practice consists of small commercial, interiors and historic preservation. I am the current chair of the Constructors and Designers Alliance which is working on workforce development for TOD and construction in the front-range of Colorado. I serve as a member of the Colorado State Licensing Board of Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

My favorite place in town to hang out: The Evergreen post office - I'm there every day and I always see a friend.

What I like most about living here: Nature and the people. Foothills residents have an appreciation of the special qualities of our Colorado way-of-life. We value our environment, communities and work to make the world better for our future.

My interests and hobbies: Art, architecture, history, knitting, hiking and travel.

My favorite thing to cook: I'm told my brownies are pretty good. I also have a recipe for chicken pot pie that tastes great in fall or winter.

People who inspire me (and how): Anyone who gives selflessly - they are all around us. They fill our communities, our schools, our places of worship and our military. For every person that complains that they haven't been given their fair share, there are a dozen who don't worry about their fair share but just work to accomplish a goal. They are my heroes.

How I have contributed to the community: As business owners, my husband and I have created jobs, built houses and office buildings for Evergreen. I have volunteered at my church, my children's school, Rotary and Kiwanis. I believe in serving my community, my profession and the State of Colorado.

The biggest issues facing us now:
o Help our government live within its budget; we need to restore fiscal discipline - we must keep taxes and fees in check
o Keep Colorado friendly to businesses and job growth for our future and our children's future
o Give our kids the tools to succeed in a global economy through education; k-12 and higher education
o Work toward energy independence
o Protect our borders

Why I am running: I have been fortunate to work and live in a place I love. I am passionate about our state and our future. I believe in giving back and I want to work for the benefit of Colorado and its people. I want to work for the future of Colorado - a great future!
