Public Service Credit Union Helps Prevent Identity Theft.
DENVER, Colorado(Dec. 26, 2007) On November 30, 2007, Public Service Credit Union (PSCU) partnered with the Public Service Company Pioneers and DocuVault to host a Community Shred Day event. The event was held at the PSCU Littleton Branch located at 5944 South Kipling Street. During this event, members enjoyed grilled hot dogs and beverages while watching the destruction of their documents in a DocuVault shred truck that can destroy up to 8,000 pounds of documents per hour.
PSCU recognizes that properly destroying personal documents and records is important in preventing identity theft and, therefore, provides this event free of charge for members and the surrounding community. According to the 2003 Federal Trade Commission's Identity Theft Survey, approximately 10 million Americans discovered that their personal information was used to open new credit card accounts, fraudulent bank accounts, or utility accounts.
Michael Tomasello, PSCU Littleton Branch Manager, reported "over 100 members of Public Service Credit Union and the surrounding community stopped by to enjoy complimentary hot dogs while watching their personal documents being shredded quickly and securely". Michael expressed appreciation to all who attended the event, as well as the co-sponsors (the Pioneers Club and DocuVault) for making it a successful day." The next credit union Shred Day Event will be in the spring of 2008; time, date and location to be announced.
