Used school supplies turn to gold

Used crayons and other school supplies that Jeffco students throw away are like gold to children in countries around the world.

Over the past 10 years, the non-profit group Books for the Barrios has partnered with many Jeffco schools to recycle used school supplies and send them to children in need. Many Jeffco schools collect new and used supplies at the end of the school year including: Belmar, Coronado, DeVinny, Green Mountain, Hutchinson, Kendrick Lakes, Kyffin, Peiffer, Shaffer and Westgate Elementary schools.

Last year, Jeffco students donated 1,000 pounds of crayons.

For information on how your elementary school can collect or donate crayons, contact Brenda Bronson at Brenda.Bronsonfpe@gmail.com or call 303-941-7634.
