The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Last year, nearly $100 million was raised through the Walk to Cure Diabetes nationwide. This year, the Denver Walk will be held on Sunday, September 14th at Elitch Gardens and aims to raise $1 million.
My daughter
Kenna was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes when she was 6 years old. She is now 12 and wears an insulin pump. As a preschool teacher I had been trained to look for the symptoms of diabetes in the children I teach. When I started noticing the symptoms; excessive thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, headaches etc. in my own daughter, I was in disbelief. Luckily, we caught it early and she didn't have to be hospitalized. After days of training on how to deal with our new life with diabetes, we learned of JDRF and the Walk to Cure Diabetes. We knew we needed to get involved as a family and form a team to help raise money for this cause that is so dear to our hearts. This year will be our 5 th year of walking with our team
Kenna's Cure and our team of 4 has grown to well over 20.
