Top 10 reasons to vote for ballot question 2A

Top 10 Reasons to Vote for Ballot Question 2A

1. Remove the handcuffs. It makes economic sense to allow government to save in prosperous years for the inevitable lean years. TABOR's arbitrary cap on city revenues makes that impossible.

2. Keep Littleton's quality of life competitive. Most of our neighbors have removed their TABOR caps and are using their new budget flexibility to improve their quality of life. A YES vote will help maintain and enhance Littleton's high quality of life.

3. No new taxes. Littleton's sales tax rate is among the lowest in the metro area. Its property tax has not increased since 1991. A YES vote will not increase or add any taxes.

4. Keep your control over taxes. A YES vote on 2A will not change your right to vote on taxes.

5. Littleton has already cut services. In 2005 the city's budget was cut by 10%. Services were cut with the elimination of a police dispatcher and two police officers, as well as positions relating to animal control, the courts, accounting, the library and street maintenance. A YES vote will help protect against future cuts in services.

6. A proven track record. Voters have trusted the city council with TABOR funds since 1995. The council has invested those funds to make Santa Fe safety improvements, purchase the land for the Buck Center, purchase open space, construct a fire station on Broadway, renovate the library and historical museum - and more! Let's keep investing in our hometown. YES on 2A!

7. Make growth pay its own way. New businesses and residents coming to Littleton will require services such as police and fire protection. If the city can't keep the increased revenues that new developments generate, existing city services may have to be reduced. A YES vote will help ensure that growth pays its own way.

8. What the money will buy. A YES vote will give the city the flexibility to:

Maintain the high level of services we currently enjoy

Restore Channel 8

Restore police positions lost in 2005

Solve the well-documented space needs of the police department

Keep our streets paved and pothole-free

Protect funding for the Omnibus, Shopping Cart, the museum and library, and

Continue to ask citizens how the revenues should be spent.

9. Remember Referendum C. In 2005, a majority of Littleton voters backed Referendum C because they realized that TABOR's cap was keeping the state government from doing its job, particularly in times of economic stress. The cap on the city has the same effect. YES on 2A!

10. Protect our children. A YES vote will help continue funding for the Greater Littleton Youth Initiative, the nationally recognized program formed after the Columbine tragedy to protect our youth. GLYI runs programs including suicide-prevention, bully-proofing, and life skills training.

Take off your cap, Littleton! Vote YES on 2A!

At least two of the people in the picture (Councilpersons Ostermiller and Taylor) were found to have violated the Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA)by Judge Robert N. Spencer (Done amd Signed October 6. 2006). They broke this law. Mayor Taylor then told the Littleton Independent newspaper, "I do not think actions by the city council will change..." on Oct 12. If I were in their shoes I wouldn't wave a sign that says "remove the handcuffs". Be careful what you wish for. Norm Brown
