On election evening, November 3, 2009, the Littleton City Council honored Littleton business Novus Biologicals and its employees for being named a 2009 Colorado Companies to Watch. Karen Padgett, Novus Biologicals CEO, accepted the City's congratulations. Novus Biologicals has sustained double-digit rates of growth for both employees and revenue every year since the company's founding in 2001, including the current recession-plagued 2008-2009.
Earlier in the day a celebratory event held at company headquarters was attended by officials from the State of Colorado Office of Economic Development and Information Technology, Littleton Mayor Doug Clark, Council Members Debbie Brinkman and Peggy Cole, and 2009 Colorado Companies to Watch sponsors from Colorado Business Bank and iTruss Solutions.
Companies to Watch is a unique awards program developed by the Edward Lowe Foundation to bring recognition to second stage companies, which because of their size (6 to 99 employees and revenues between $750,000 and $50,000,000) often fly under the radar. The Edward Lowe Foundation recognizes the importance of second stage companies in creating more jobs per capita than businesses of any other size. The foundation has established Companies to Watch programs in Arizona, Indiana, Mississippi, Michigan, and for the first time this year, Colorado.
In business since 1996, Novus Biologicals partners with leading scientific researchers and third-party providers to offer the biological research community a portfolio of more than 70,000 products including antibodies, controls, kits and other proteomics reagents. The declared mission of Novus Biologicals is "to accelerate scientific discovery by developing and marketing unique products in the forefront of science". In April of this year, the company opened their first international office in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
