The river cringed as it accepted the grisly load. The blood-stained carpet, bound with heavy chains attached to large lead weights, wriggled almost imperceptibly. Not that it would have made a difference. Those that made the deposit had no respect for life. The only result of a greater struggle would have been another well-placed blow to head.
Down and down the bundle went. It probably all happened very quickly, I suppose. If it was a movie, it would have been one of those slow motion moments. The dumping accompanied by a huge splash, and then a shot from below, a large clump silhouetted by the full moon shining through the rippled surface of the water.
Achingly slow the descent would be. The struggling form would continue to thrash and jerk and maybe come amazingly close to setting itself free. If freed, the form swims frantically for the surface, cresting the calm pool with great commotion and grasping for breath.
These are the thoughts I'm thinking. These and remembering those I have loved, and those who have loved me. A fast -forward montage of the scenes of my life, impossible for anyone to see but me. You see, it's me. Lungs are filling with water now. Maybe time for a quick prayer for me and mine. I don't think I'm ready to die, but I don't have a choice.
Fade to black.
