Concerning my missing Obama yard sign

I hardly ever watch TV on Saturday afternoon, but I was hot and tired after pulling weeds around my yard, and I remembered that the DNC was making a decision today about what to do with the Florida and Michigan delegates. I caught the action on MSNBC right before the final motions and votes, and "action" is the right word.

The committee members themselves were fairly civil, although some used divisive words, so I was surprised that the audience was not civil, that they actually "booed" speakers as well as cheered some on. And there was a lot of hackling despite the chairperson gaveling for quiet.

Finally, someone on the committee said, "You're doing your candidate a disservice by not showing the speaker respect," or something to that effect.The disrespectful audience members were Hillary supporters because Hillary did not get things her way.For both Florida and Michigan, the delegates will be seated at the Democratic Convention in Denver, but their votes will only count for half.

The Michigan decision is a little more complicated than that, and it drew the most critique from the audience as well as the strongest language from committee members. However, considering that Michigan and Florida did not follow party rules, they should be happy that the rules were bent this much, that the Obama campaign agreed to allow this change considering he followed the rules himself.

But Hillary, despite all the signs that the nomination is going to Obama, despite that the DNC voted down the motions pushed by her campaign today, is planning on taking this argument further, to the credentials committee, or so said one of the committee members who was speaking for her. Like her supporters in the audience, angry party members from Florida and Michigan, she just doesn't seem to want to walk away gracefully.

Unlike Al Gore, who had every right in 2000 to be angry when it appeared that the Republicans had manipulated the election in their favor, who stepped aside with dignity and went on to serve his country in a different role, Hillary just seems bent on winning.No matter what the numbers say, no matter what the DNC said today, and no matter what even the pundits on TV say.

I found it sad today, almost embarrassing, that Hillary supporters are as willing as Hillary herself to do or say anything to win. It is a fact that in every race, someone has to lose. In this case, that someone needs to realize that she isn't going to be the first woman president. No matter what she says or does, or what her husband says or does,the Clintons just can't will themselves back into the White House.

And no matter what her supporters do, the end is nigh. So to the person who stole the Obama sign out of my yard, a sign that had survived on a conservative street in Littleton for five months, if you're a Hillary supporter and angry at the outcome of this election, shame on you. You're partaking in the process of dividing, not uniting the Democratic party. Of course, a Republican probably took the sign, and will be surprised when three more pop up in its place.

But I'm more optimistic than that. I'm thinking that someone wanted the sign for their own yard, that they couldn't wait until the local Obama offices got some more, they've been so popular. It's positive thinking and acting like that that has made the Obama campaign a success, one that has risen above politics as usual.

Speaking of which, until this year, that didn't include a major candidate, someone who says she'sready to be president on day one, being such a sore loser. Please, Hillary, give us a reason to respect you. Please, Hillary supporters, let's be a united Democratic party, this year of all years. There is too much at stake. A lot more than yard signs.
