Arapahoe Community College's (ACC) Community Education program will hold its annual Summer Youth College enrichment program for elementary, middle school and high school students. Most courses are one week in duration and are offered starting June 26 through early August.
ACC Youth College courses are as varied as "Dance Camp," "Space and Rocketry '06: Launch the Razor Rocket," "Chess Openings," "Car Maintenance and Safety," "Multimedia Animation," "Red Cross Babysitting," "Robotics," "Introduction to Ceramics," "Junior Police Academy" and "Computer Music." Special weeklong camps are scheduled in conjunction with the Hudson Gardens & Events Center for young naturalists. A variety of different level chess courses, academic courses, foreign languages (Spanish and Japanese), art courses, computer courses, and ACT and SAT preparation courses round out the offerings.
This year's courses also include the Middle School and High School Preparation Summer School Program for current 6-8 grade students. Grade level skill preparation courses for credit last six weeks and include skill preparation for grade 6 and 7 students in language arts, mathematics and Strategies for Middle School Success. High school preparation courses for 8 th grade students include language arts, mathematics and Strategies for School Success. Non-credit skill reinforcement courses for middle schoolers are offered in two-week formats. Discounts are offered if more than one skill reinforcement session is taken over the summer.
Lunch Bunch is a feature offering noontime supervision for students staying on campus between morning and afternoon classes. An adult supervisor is onsite for the duration of the Youth College Program. Most classes are held on the main campus at 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive.
Registration must be completed by noon on the Wednesday before the course begins. A listing of all ACC Youth College courses can be obtained by calling 303-797-5722 or by visiting
