Have you ever wanted to take Master Gardener training classes but don’t have the time to volunteer in summer? Would you like to learn more about home horticulture? Do you have time in the winter to attend all-day Tuesday classes? Would you like a Colorado Gardener certificate at the conclusion of the 10 week program?
Colorado State University Cooperative Extension in Jefferson County is offering Colorado Gardener Certificate training Tuesdays from Jan. 10 through March 21, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, West 6th Avenue and Indiana Street. Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., a total of 54 hours of training for $300 tuition and $160 materials fee. The $460 total cost represents a bargain at less than $9 per training hour.
Topics taught by Colorado State professors and Cooperative Extension horticulture agents include:
· Basic Plant Pathology and Diagnosing plant problems
· Basic Botany and terminology
· Soils, Amendments and Fertilizers
· Lawn Management and trouble-shooting
· Basic Entomology and Insect
Identification
· Tree Selection, Planting, Pruning and trouble-shooting
· Irrigation Management and Water-Wise Gardening
