Leawood’s 5th Annual Poetry Café a HUGE Success!
Contributed by: Liz Keating on 4/13/2007

March is Poetry month and the 5 th and 6 th graders at Leawood arrived at school ONE hour early on Friday to share their favorite poems at the fifth annual "Leawood Poetry Café." This year Lynn Story, sixth grade teacher, hosted the café. School secretary Sharon Bramlett created a shirt just for Lynn to wear for her hosting duties. Over fifty students and teachers read original poetry, their childhood favorites or teamed with a friend to read in tandem. Students snacked on donuts and juice at tables covered with big sheets of paper so participants could doodle while they listened. Sadly, all too soon, the nine o'clock bell rang and the Poetry Café was over for another year.
