South Jeffco Youth Orchestra to hold auditions

The South Jeffco Youth Orchestra (SJYO), under the direction of Frank Fyock, Music Director and Principal Conductor, will hold it second round of auditions for the 2007-2008 season on Saturday, August 25 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the SJYO's home-base: D'Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School, 10359 W. Nassau Avenue, Littleton, Colorado.
Audition requirements include the performance of two octaves of a major scale of choice and its arpeggios; and performance, for two to three minutes, of a music selection of choice. The judges will also ask all who audition to sight read. Percussion will be asked to perform basic drum rolls and two rudiments of choice. Auditions for musicians ages seven through twenty-three will be held by appointment for the following instrumental music groups: South Jeffco Youth Orchestra; the South Jeffco Strings Ensemble; and the South Jeffco Jazz/Winds Orchestra. The 2007-2008 concert season of the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra includes three concerts to be performed in November 2007, and March and April, 2008. A fourth concert will be performed off-site in December. In addition, an intensive, educational, two-day Music Retreat will be held at Colorado Christian University in September. A musical education trip for all musicians to the Niagara Falls International Youth Music Festival in Ontario, Canada is planned for July, 2008.
Music Director and Principal Conductor Frank Fyock is Director of Orchestras at the Denver School of the Arts, developing young artists' orchestras which have performed in many parts of the world, most recently in Moscow, Russia. Mr. Fyock will direct the fourth season of the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra enabling students to experience the elements of a professional environment, including competition, responsibility, and concert hall performances.
