Approximately 30 people, numerous local bands, and 'D Note', who is providing their facility and a full meal all are volunteering this Friday, June 20, 2008 to help breast cancer survivors. It all started when a nonprofit organization called Random Acts of Kindness found out that a local touring company, QueensLander Tours, was trying to raise enough money to send breast cancer survivors and their caregivers on the 2008 Cruise for the Cure (October 26, 2008, 8 day Mexican Riviera cruise benefiting breast cancer survivors,
www.qltours.com). "We did this event last year and had thirty participants," explains project manager, Sherry Moore. "Four of the participants were fully sponsored by organizations and wonderful folks who put their money together to help. Last year's proceeds from the cruise went to the Komen Foundation, Denver Affiliate and this year it will go to Celebrate Pink. We want to bless as many people as we can with this event!"
The event this Friday is open to everyone, and all entrance fees and donations raised will be donated 100% to pay all cruise and flight expenses for as many breast cancer survivors and caregivers as possible. The event is a "Womenless Beauty Pageant", being held Friday, June 20, 2008, at 7:30pm at D NOTE, located at 7519 Grandview Ave, Denver, Colorado. Cost is $45 at the door and includes dinner. Questions about the event can be directed to Random Acts of Kindness coordinator, Angela, at 720-496-7253. For those who cannot attend the event, donations can be sent directly to QueensLander Tours, 3222 Green Haven Cir, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
"These breast cancer survivors will tell you of their frustrations and of being persistent, of journeys that have made them stronger, and of journeys that have thrown them into a whirlwind of turmoil. They have nearly died, and now they are very much alive. I just want to give them something special - to feel the sun on their face and the ocean's water tickling their feet. They deserve this!" - Sherry Moore, QueensLander Tours.
