Sweetness brings Christmas to needy kids
Contributed by: Chris McGrath on 12/2/2005

South Suburban Parks and Recreation’s 6th Annual Holiday Sweetness Bowl Flag Football Tournament will be held on Dec.10 and 11.

Last year $1800 worth of toys were collected for needy children in Arapahoe County from this event.  Butch Reich, athletics coordinator and director of the flag football tournament, started the Sweetness Bowl as a tribute to his favorite former football star, Walter Payton, and for his favorite little people, the children.

Walter “Sweetness” Payton is one of the best to ever play football,” said Reich.  “This event not only gives tribute to him, but helps little people who don’t always get what they want for Christmas.”

Tournament fee is $200 per team and each flag football team must bring four store-bought toys worth $20 that are donated to Inter-Faith Community Services for distribution to families in need.  To register call or stop by the athletics office, 6631 S. University Blvd., 303-798-7515.
