A match made in heaven
Contributed by: Carol Willms on 2/1/2007

When I moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, from San Diego, California, to start up a new hearing clinic, little did I know that I would meet the love of my life there. And, not just in the town, but in the duplex right next to me.

I was not accustomed to the snowy weather in that part of Oregon, but I had had the foresight to buy chains for my car. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to put them on, and when the first snowstorm hit, I made sure I went outside to meet my new neighbor before he went to work so I could ask him if he could show me how. That request brought Ray and me together forever.

Ray loved my independent nature, taught me to put the chains on, and the rest is history. We were married seven months later. We have three children and have now been married for 28 happy years.

Why do I say this match was made in heaven? Our miracle came 21 years after we were married. In late 1998 Ray's kidneys failed. A few months later I was tested and approved to be his kidney donor. I was a match! In October of 1999 we had the transplant surgery and now, although I only have one kidney, my other one still travels right beside me, and more importantly, so does my beloved husband. Now that's a match made in heaven!
