Hub cartoonist captures highest honor in Scouting
On 2/27/2007
Contributed by: Cathy Caldara on 2/27/2007

Local Columbine cartoonist Joseph Caldara has tipped the scales again, when he was awarded his Eagle Scout rank on 10/18/2006, from Boy Scout Troop 794. Joseph is seventeen years old, and will be graduating in May, 2007. Joseph has a lengthy scouting career, spanning a total of eleven years - four years in Cub Scouts, and seven years in Boy Scouts. He has assisted Columbine and the Littleton community with over 300 hours of service work on various projects undertaken with his fellow scouts.

For his own Eagle Scout project, Joseph served the Ronald McDonald house in Denver by fundraising and purchasing over $3,000 worth of shelving, and reorganizing the storage basement at RMH. In addition to the shelving, he was left with $500 which he used to buy supplies from their "wish list". Joseph logged inmore than100 "man" hours in order to complete this project. His motivation was to benefit RMH in appreciation for the tender care that they provide for families of sick children, in the memory of his baby cousin, Parker Kelly Caldara.

Joseph would like to thank the community, including his parents and grandparents, for the support and opportunity to achieve this important milestone, and the rank of Eagle Scout. He will be recognized with an Eagle Scout Court of Honor, to be held on March 3, 2007. Congratulations, Joseph!
