Euclid student wins Sports Illustrated contest
On 3/1/2007
Contributed by: Pat Greenway on 3/15/2007

Open the April Issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids (S.I.Kids) and thankfully, you won't see bathing suits. You will however see Logan Max, a 6th grader attending Euclid Middle School who just won the magazine-sponsored national hockey mask design contest. Over 3,200 contestants nation-wide submitted their best goalie mask designs in as effort to win a replica of Washington Capitals goalies, Olaf Kolzigs hockey mask. Top ten finalists were screened by magazines staff, with Kolzig himself selecting Max's design as the winner.

The contest combined Max's passions for sports and art. His response to hearing the news of his winning design was, "Wow! No way". Interviews with the editor in New York and a photoshoot with his prize helmet followed. Max hopes to meet Kolzig in person someday, but is thrilled just having his autograph and knowing they share duplicate helmets. Max also plays drums, enjoys baseball, soccer and hockey and hanging out with friends. His design and spread can be found on page 33 of the April issue of SIKids.

Congratulations to Logan from friends and teammates' families past and present. While "SI for grown-ups" may be known for promoting passions besides sports, it is refreshing to see SIKids and Olaf Kolzig encouraging young athletes with genuine talents that go beyond the playing fields.
