Students and Employees of Arapahoe Community College Furnish 70 Needy Families with Thanksgiving Food
Seventyneedy families received baskets of food over the Thanksgiving holiday thanks to the unprecedented participation of Arapahoe Community College's students and employees in a collaborative food drive held by ACC's Sci Quest Club and the institution's Child Development Center. Sci Quest is a community service oriented club for Science-oriented students at ACC.
35 of the families to receive food belonged to low income ACC students who rely on the Child Development Center to care for their children while they take classes. The other 35 families were from the local community. The Sci Quest Club packaged the food and donated $1,400 to provide $20 King Soopers gift certificates to all 70 families.
ACC's Advising and Counseling office challenged other College departments to each fill two boxes with Thanksgiving fixings. Several departments rose to the challenge and enormous participation came from: Nursing, Computer Information Systems, Advising, Financial Aid, the Church Street Administration Building, Cashiers, Business, Campus Police and the Fitness Center. Cases of food were delivered from ACC's Automotive department and special collection effort was spearheaded by Full-time Faculty Member Janet Pasterkamp's Accounting students.
