The first meeting of the Littleton Pub Forum, an open discussion of any issue for Littleton citizens, will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Buck Center from 7 to 9 PM. The public is invited and there is no charge.
In a Guest Editorial in the
Littleton Independent
several months ago,
Tom Kristopeit
suggested that Littleton needed more open communication and proposed the "Public Policy Pub Plan." This Forum is the start of that plan. Subsequent Forums are planned for March and April and will be continued if attendance warrants it.
In announcing the Forum, Kristopeit said, "Public bodies all have public hearings or a chance for the public to speak, but those times are limited, there is usually no response from public officials and in some cases, speaking about certain topics is prohibited. The essence of democracy is open discussion, debate and, if possible, consensus. The Forum will provide an interactive setting for everyone to speak out and for others to respond. The first meeting will probably focus on issues and concerns and developing a priority of topics for future meetings."
According to Kristopeit, those attending will be asked to speak for themselves personally and avoid any official identification or relationships. Time will be opened ended, with a request for brevity, but no clock.
