Students send hugs to distant places

Masses of Furry Animals Found in "Friendship Tree" at Peiffer Elementary School in Littleton

In the grand spirit of this season of giving, the students at Peiffer Elementary School have been collecting and donating cuddly stuffed animals (loving hugs) for Loving hugs, Inc., a local non-profit organization based right here in Littleton, from December 3rd through December 20th; these will be sent to children in orphanages, hospitals, and refugee camps overseas.

This wonderful activity of selfless giving on the part of these young students will help to make a positive difference in the lives of young children in very stressful situations caused by extreme poverty, war, or natural disasters; children who live a long way from Littleton. These gifts of cuddly hugs from the students at Peiffer Elementary School will give the children overseas something to hug close and hold onto, to help them through very difficult and scary times, bringing them the comfort of 'anytime hugs' from these beloved cuddly stuffed animals.

Peiffer Elementary School teacher, Lynn Broman and secretary Ellen Fleer read about the Loving Hugs organization in YourHub.com this past September, and contacted the nonprofit to inquire about having a "Hug Drive" for their school. These collected "hugs" have been placed in the branches and all around the base of their school's "Friendship Tree", located in their school's lobby- and what a friendly sight it is! There were 319 donated stuffed animals peeking out from their tree for Loving Hugs, Inc.

One young Peiffer Elementary School student, accompanied by her mother, brought some of her own much-loved cuddly stuffed animals to donate to this worthy cause. When handing them to Donnelle Kling, one of the school's Student Team Advisors, this young student told of how much she'd always loved these stuffed animals, and always would, and with a few tears slipping down her cheek, handed them over for the children whose needs are even greater than hers. What an amazing action of selfless giving this student has given!

Children reaching out with their loving, open, and compassionate hearts to give to other children whose need of 'hugs' are even greater than their own at this time - We could all learn a lesson from these Peiffer Elementary School students! Kudos to the Administration, teachers, and staff of this school for teaching their students
such important, valuable and positive life-lessons!
